Make a big difference in your community

Our volunteers contribute to Tandem’s success by hosting book drives, handling administrative tasks, and spreading the word about the work that we do in Bay Area communities. We offer ways for individuals, as well as groups, to easily give back. Get a group of friends or coworkers together and build better futures for Bay Area families!

 

Group and Corporate Volunteering: StoryBlocks (in-person and remote)

Get your office together and assemble StoryBlocks, sets of wooden blocks that support children’s early learning skills through creative play. We bring the raw materials – you supply the willing participants! We can come to your office, or you can come to ours.

StoryBlocks are used by educators and families to reinforce storytelling and show how important language, talk, and play is for children’s early brain development.

We book groups for 2 hours and have had great feedback from volunteers at companies like Salesforce, Wells Fargo, Google, and Handshake. We ask for a charitable contribution per person to support our programs and cover the costs of materials.

Remote: StoryBlocks is also available as a remote, virtual opportunity over Zoom. Materials will be delivered to one location and distributed by teams from there.

Host an Online Book Drive

Host a book drive to bring joy and opportunity to thousands of Bay Area families. With a customizable fundraising campaign page, people can contribute to help Tandem purchase books for our program participants. Books may also be purchased directly through our Bookshop.org wishlist or through your local bookstore and sent directly to our San Francisco office.

Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Tandem partners with Hands On Bay Area to facilitate volunteer shifts once a month to assist with various projects in our San Francisco office.
