Celebrate Grandparents This Grandparents Day and Every Day!
Grandparents are great!
As a young child, my grandparents meant more to me than the sun and the moon. I have so many memories of playground tag and trips to the ice cream store with grandpa and cozy late nights reading spooky stories with grandma. To this day I feel a sense of warmth and security when I recall weekends spent at my grandparents house. My Mother and Father made it a priority to honor my grandparents and instill in me an appreciation for all the love and care they provided me. Why not do the same and celebrate national grandparents day with the help of some of our favorite titles! Click on the photos of books to go to our Amazon affiliate links and get your copies!
I Love You, Grandma
Author: Jillian Harker
Illustrator: Kristina Stephenson
Little Bear is curious and asks his grandmother a lot of questions. Fortunately, this is a grandma who knows a lot. While searching for food, his grandmother gives him all the answers. I Love You, Grandma has beautiful illustrations by Kristina Stephenson and a sweet story by Jillian Harker in text that easy to read. I love the idea of a child learning from their grandparent through asking curious questions. What grandparent doesn’t love helping their grandkids learn all about the world around them? This author and illustrator team also has ‘I Love You, Grandpa,’ so make sure you check out both!
The Grandpa Book
Author: Todd Parr
Illustrator: Todd Parr
With childlike smiling stick figures, bold, brilliant colors, and upbeat text, picture-book creator Todd Parr celebrates the diverse, wonderful world of grandfathers in The Grandpa Book. Parr focuses on the differences between individual grandparents (Some grandpas take you to school, some grandpas take you to the park), but brings it all together with lines like ‘All grandpas like to make you laugh!’ He ends with ‘All grandpas like to hold and hug you!’ Parr’s quirky artwork and eternally optimistic books are truly irresistible, for both grown-ups and kids. At Tandem, we love Todd’s books for younger children!

Illustrator: Vanessa Brantley-Newton
Visits from Grandma can be an special occasion for kids everywhere. In this book, a big part of the excitement comes from Grandma Mimi’s purse. There’s no telling what special things she’ll have hidden in her bag. Sweets, jewelry, special gifts for her grandchildren, it’s a surprise anytime. This book is great for creative thinking. Guess together what else might be in grandma’s bag and imagine how it got into her bag in the first place!
